HOLIDAY TYPES
Santiago de Cuba
The eastern city of Santiago de Cuba is set between the foothills of the Sierra Maestra and the coast and has a unique atmosphere quite unlike that of the humid capital, Havana. It is the country's second city, known as the "Cradle of the Revolution" and historically very important as it was here, on the 26th July 1953, that Fidel Castro launched an attack on the Moncada barracks heralding the start of the Revolution.
More Afro-Caribbean in feel with a passion for salsa music and fiestas, the city is famed for its music and hosts jazz and music festivals as well as a lively Carnival in the last two weeks of July. The coast here is unspoiled and less visited.
