Beach Holidays in Bali
Discover a land of smiles, exotic cultures and a beach holiday of bare-foot luxuries amidst the tranquil settings of Bali and Lombok.
As one of the best known Indonesian islands, Bali is a kaleidoscope of natural wonders and an exemplar of Balinese history and culture. Magnificent volcanoes, dense tropical jungles, and hillside rice terraces give way to incredible beaches and clear blue waters. On the western side of the island you will find some of the best surf beaches in the world, whilst the eastern side has beautiful white sand beaches and gentle seas, ideal for families.
Those more culturally inclined can take a visit to the many sacred temples and palaces, or wander through the historical centre of Ubud. Snorkeling and scuba diving is also a popular choice for those looking to explore the abundant marine life at home in the tropics.
Smaller and more secluded than its neighbour, Lombok is a short 20 minute flight for Bali. With stunning beaches and only a handful of hotels and restaurants, this tiny piece of paradise can be combined with a stay in Bail, and is also a great alternative for those in search of a quiet and rejuvenating luxury beach holiday.

Dining while in Bali will truly be one of the highlights of your entire trip as the experience is enjoyable both at high-end restaurants and at open top cafes. Hotels offer guest a wide variety of excellent dishes to satisfy every budget and taste. If you feel in the mood to venture out for a meal, there are many restaurants within Kuta, Legian, Candidasa, and Sanur.
The atmosphere of most restaurants tend to be relaxed, often with grass roofs, cane furniture, and contemporary music. In addition, mobile snack bars called warungs are popular for a quick bite to eat on the go in between meals.
The night markets are traditional outdoor eateries that come to life at dusk, and are famous all over Southeast Asia. Even if you cannot work up the courage to eat in the markets, you must visit one to experience the thrills, the smells, the sights, and the noises that define this part of the world.
Night markets and traditional outdoor eateries come to life at dusk with this custom being famous all over Southeast Asia. In the event that you decide not to eat in the markets, they are still worth a visit or walkthrough.
If in search of authentic Balinese food, venture outside of your hotel and the city centre restaurants as it is rarely served there.
It is best to check with the UKBA prior to travel to verify your visa requirement needs.
The electricity in Bali is 220 volts with 50 cycles per minute. You should check with your hotel to verify the type of converter or adapter you may need.
Monkey’s are very much a part of the Balinese wildlife and make up of the peoples culture too. Indeed within Balinese Hinduism, the Macaque, is the embodiment of both positive and negative forces. Ubud itself is home to a large population of monkeys as it is one of Bali’s conservational forested areas. They are present in the majority of hotels in this region but generally keep well clear of human beings. Westen & Oriental Travel do not recommend feeding the monkey’s or leaving food outside for them as this may encourage more aggressive behaviour to develop among a troop of monkeys!
Indonesia is considered to be fairly safe and has a low violent crime rate. As advised when travelling to any destination, make sure that you are always aware of your surroundings, especially when out on the town at night.
The flight time from the UK to Indonesia is 15 hours.
Bali is part of Indonesia and use the official currency called the Rupiah, also noted as Rp. Banknotes are available in a range of denominations, however coins are only available in two types. The positive part about Rupiah is that all notes are distinctive and easy to tell apart from each other.
The time difference in Indonesia is GMT +8
We went to Bali Tembok Spa 2 yrs ago for our honeymoon and we booked our holiday with the same company. We had excellent service from W&O so this year we decided to return to Bali Tembok Spa again and booking with W&O was easy and Peter was very helpful - thanks Peter. When we arrived at Tembok we were upgraded to villa with private pool...:-) and we had wonderful time.
Spa Village - Extremely relaxing, attention to detail excellent, the full board and spa package very good value. Highly recommended. Samaya Ubud - Beautiful rooms, amazing views, very good service. Food was of a very high standard. Only negative was the inflated price of alcohol.
Hi Ricky,
Thank-you for sorting the problem with the meals. The Garuda flight was 18 minutes- the shortest flight of my life!
Just a note to say what an amazing honeymoon we had. The Oberoi Lombok and The Samaya Ubud were first class. If you do book another couple into the Samaya, you can recommend villa 105. Stunning.
The Amala Seminyak was fine for a short stay, although, in my opinion our room could have done with a good clean. It was a bit grubby. The place itself was lovely and the staff were very friendly.
Again, the Marinda Mandarin Singpore, was OK. Huge, impersonal place with Holiday Inn style rooms- a bit of a step down from the Samaya, yet adequate for a 2 night stay. Superb location. Terrible concierge - on two occasions when asking for a restaurant they recommended the food court at the adjoining shopping mall! The second time was after explaining that we were on honeymoon.
But overall, a fantastic time. Thank-you!
Kind regards,
Lee Gamble
Hi Ricky,
We are now 1 week back to reality and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you very much for organising a wonderful holiday for us! It was truly perfect!
The flights, transfers and hotels were all perfect!! This really made our holiday effortless and we could fully appreciate the places we were visiting. It exceeded our expectations and we really feel lucky that you were able to recommend the hotels you did, especially Bali! although I was very impressed with the Hong Kong one too!
Please share my appreciation to the rest of your colleagues that assisted with this.
Will be in contact again for our next adventure ;-)
Thanks once more
Richard
