Unique Experiences in Malaysia

During a Malaysia holiday, experience the fascinating blend of cultures and landscapes, from bustling high-rise cities to rural island retreats and eco-friendly adventures.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital city and fashion hub, offers some of the best shopping in the region. With around 66 ultra-modern retail malls and selection of lively street markets, shopaholics will be in their element during a Kuala Lumpur holiday - there are plenty of bargains to be found!

A luxury holiday to Malaysia will be a journey you will never forget. Malaysia is a warm and friendly land abounding in breathtaking natural wonders and cultural sights. Enjoy exotic gastronomic delights, colourful festivals and melting pot of cultures, plus a selection of highly acclaimed luxury hotels in Malaysia, such as Shangri-La and Traders.

On the west coast of the peninsula you’ll find the rural resort island of Langkawi and the tropical retreats of Pangkor Laut and Penang. For total escapism, head to the east coast with its traditional Malay appeal and choice of eco adventure holidays. The rainforest island of Borneo, just a two and a half hour flight from the capital and famous for its colonies of orang utans, is ideal for those looking for unique wildlife encounters and an off the beaten track experience.

The west coast tends to have its best weather from November to early May and the east coast from April through to October.

Call our travel specialists who will help you choose the best luxury hotels in Malaysia and plan a tailor-made itinerary for a holiday you’ll never forget.

Malaysia Guide
About Malaysia

From rainforests to mountains and everything in between, Malaysia and its essence lives up to what most of us perceive as ‘True Asia’. Considered to be one of the great cultural melting pots, the nation is host to many cultures outside of its own.

This can best be seen while wandering through the streets where you will pass gold-domed Malay mosques that tower over hindu style bustling markets. Far away from the city centres are untamed pieces of natures that offer rare and exotic species and hints of tropical wildlife.
Although lacking in ancient ruins and deep cultural ties such as neighbouring countries, Malaysia still brings a unique cultural heritage all its own that the people of the country can rejoice and celebrate about.

Becoming more of a strong economic force in the last decade, Malaysia often serves as an important trading port between India and China and this is reflected in various sectors within the country, especially in retail.

Malaysian food is heavily inspired by the Indian palate but also influenced by traditional spices and herbs from neighbouring Thailand. Many dishes are made with or blended in coconut milk and curry and other exotic flavours such as galangal, lime, and lemon grass.

Rice is a staple in traditional Malay meals, often accompanied by fried chicken or fish, vegetable dishes, and small condiments such as shrimp paste. As seafood is popular, fish, prawns, and squid are often bestsellers at most restaurant menus.

The most popular Malay dish is Satay, delicious barbecued skewers of marinated chicken, beef, or mutton that are to be dipped in chilli peanut sauce.
You will also find popular dishes from other Asian countries, particularly Chinese Food and Peranakan cuisine.

You will easily find a variety of beverages no matter where you go including traditional western soft drinks and bottled water, both still and sparkling.

Malaysia Holiday Reviews
Mr A Williams says:

The holiday was great!

The Club room at Traders was a real plus with a quieter breakfast and an enjoyable 'happy hour' (actually 2 hours!). Traders is fine as a hotel though the bedrooms are a bit dark and on the smaller side, good location for the Botanical Gardens. We had an upgrade for Gayana Eco Lodge to Ocean view (fabulous!).

At Rasa Ria the building works were to start the day before we left. We heard absolutely nothing from the Ocean Wing and we were given approx £42 per day for the whole stay to offset any inconvenience. We were also able to use our half board allowance in the Ocean Wing restaurant  'Coast' so that's what we did and we had wonderful meals!  Our room was on the 4th floor which enabled us to have the full sea view, you were right about the rooms and pool ....v. much worth the extra.

All in all everything went very smoothly and we had a wonderful time. At all places we had excellent service and we found  staff and guides to be truly charming as well as efficient.

Thanks for your assistance and availability......we're back to the 'day' jobs now to save up for the next adventure!

Mr & Mrs Rudland says:

Traders in Kuala Lumpur - Excellent location and wonderful room with view of the Petronas towers. It also made all the difference being in the Traders ‘club’, mainly because of the extremely civilised breakfast without any pushing to make toast etc!

Taman Negara
Interesting.  Journey up river to get there was lovely to start out, but after 3 hrs sitting on the bottom of a long boat it got rather painful!  You certainly got us the best room available, so that was clever, but even so it was quite basic. We were all slightly disappointed not to see more animals, birds, or wildlife of any description.

The Danna
Stunning hotel and all you said it would be. Our new room was lovely and the quality of furnishings, bed linen, etc was wonderful. I’m very glad that we didn’t opt for half-board because it would not have been value for money.  The price you quoted us was £30 per person per night for half-board, i.e. approx 150 ringits, but the barbecue 3-course dinner was only 80 ringits, so something has gone a bit awry in their costings.

Wine was a wicked price but my husband, Peter, and Chris Proffitt soon got that sorted with the Food & Bev manager! The staff were just lovely and couldn’t be more sweet and helpful, and we had a fantastic time there, so any criticism is nit-picking, and the Danna is certainly a very special place.

Best wishes and thanks again for all the trouble you took in arranging a memorable holiday.

Borneo is one of the most bio-diverse places on earth. Where else can you see Orang-Utans in the wild, watch Probiscus monkeys playing and take a cruise up the Kinabatangan River?

You can even spend a night or two in a Riverside Lodge, allowing you to explore further in to the jungle and really experience life in the rainforest by taking a Canopy Walk!

Mount Kinabalu offers a fantastic experience if you are interested in climbing too. The wildlife and cultural diversity on offer here is truly amazing.

The beach is not too far to stop by and relax after all that hard sightseeing! You can also have a few nights in Kuala Lumpur too, a city not to be missed for shopping and more stunning scenery and wildlife.
