Maldives main attraction is its string of sparkling islands, beaches and islets spread like jewels in the Indian Ocean.  Each group (Atoll) of flat coral islands encircles a lagoon, and many islands in turn feature their own 'house reef' which surrounds it, hosting a myriad of marine creatures and coral growths of varying colours, creating a spectacular underwater experience. The beaches in the Maldives are some of the best in the world.

As an ‘all inclusive’ meal plan is extremely popular these days, many hotels feature it either as their meal basis for all guests and some offer it as an option, along with usually half board (dinner) or full board (lunch and dinner, no drinks).  A select number are ‘Ultra inclusive’ where you have the choice of dine-around between all the resort’s restaurants, bars, including snacks, ice creams, premium and standard brand of drinks, cocktails, room service, mini bar, sometimes a spa treatment and most sports.  But most resorts have some limitation (but not too much!), offering certain brands of drinks served in the bars and main meals in a specified (usually buffet) restaurant, perhaps with a credit towards that special evening you want to celebrate in a fine dining restaurant.  Needless to say there is a difference in price but whichever you choose for your own lifestyle preferences it will represent good value for money in the Maldives where food and drink is all imported and fairly costly!

Although the Maldives islands are known to be good for couples, more of the newer resorts have recognised the demand for discerning travellers to bring children to enjoy the sophisticated hotels, clear lagoon waters and soft white beaches.  British Airways offers direct flights from London or you can opt to break the journey in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Our selection of family-friendly hotels feature good kids clubs, kid’s menus in restaurants and exciting excursions by boat.  A few hotels offer interconnecting rooms but it is more usual for children to share their parents’ villa or a two-bedroom villa for more luxury.
