The Menjangan is located in the northwest top of Bali and is a peaceful retreat set in the heart of an unspoilt national park, overlooking the Java sea.
The Bali Barat National Park boasts a high level of bio-diversity, with no fewer than 175 plant species and a wide variety of animals such as wild boar, deer, monkeys, macaques, the Flying Fox and the amazing Water Monitor. Bird watchers are particularly drawn to the park with more than 160 species inhabiting the park, including eagles, owls, sunbirds, kingfisher, swifts and even the rare Rothschild's Myna (or Bali Starling) with its dramatic white feathers and head plume. The coastal area surrounding the park is perhaps one of the best for snorkelling and diving in Bali, boasting some magnificent coral gardens and reef walls home to a vast range of marine life, including; sea fans, pygmy seahorses, more than 110 species of coral, hawksbill turtles, fish and even some sharks.
The Menjangan resort itself is the largest located within the Bali Barat National Park - one of the least visited parts of the wonderful island of Bali - with 382 hectares of natural landscape offering guests the chance to get close to nature and relax in the exquisite surroundings. The resort is the perfect nature retreat, with each of the various outbuildings located in and amongst the park land designed in harmony with their natural surroundings.
Two double decker safari-style mini-buses transport guests around the resort and its three main accommodation areas; The Monsoon Lodge, Beach Villas and the Menjangan Residence. The Monsoon Lodge offers guests a choice of either Deluxe Rooms or Suites, located close to the main welcome lobby area. The Beach Villas are stand alone buildings located at the resorts Sentigi Beach and each boast views overlooking the ocean. Finally, the Menjangan Residence is a three bedroom villa set on its own private estate and with private butler service.
Dinning options available at the Menjangan Resort include the resorts main restaurant at the Bali Tower and the Pantai Restaurant overlooking Sentigi Beach. The Bali Tower is a remarkable and unique structure which towers above the tree-line, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a casual lounge area and bar. From the top of the Bali Tower (fifth floor), guests can take in the incredible 360 degree views of Bali Barat National Park and ocean, or even arrange for a private dinning experience.
Additional facilities available at the resort also include the Mangrove Spa, complete with 4 outdoor treatment rooms (or open-air gazebos) set within mangroves overlooking Sentigi Beach, offering a range of traditional massages using natural products derived from the sea and promoting the art of Balinese healing practices. Also available are a number of resort activities such as bird watching, trekking and biking, horse riding, kayaking, snorkelling, diving and there is even a 25 metre yacht available for private charter.

Hi Ricky,
My husband and I have travelled extensively. Domonic has been to 49 countries and I’ve been to 37. We’ve travelled on various budgets, sometimes on high budgets staying in luxury hide away places including Six Senses Hide Away. We would place Menjangan in line with other best places we’ve ever stayed at. We would happily go back to four places we’ve been to while having travelled around the world and Menjangan Resort is among them.
The place is unique and amazing, the service is superb - one of the best we’ve ever experienced! Everyone is very well informed, so so polite and always trying to talk to you. The food in the restaurants is consistently wonderful while being not expensive. The resort occupies a vast area which is an added bonus. It allows you to do so many things - biking, trekking, etc. The bay has very beautiful corals, lots of fish - perfect for snorkeling. You are surrounded by wild life - monkeys, deer, birds, night cats, etc. And you do not have to look for them - they come to you! We understand that the Resort was bought six months ago by a new chain. There are still things they can improve on which we commented on to the management but all these things are so minor - get wifi working in beach huts, improve telephone system for incoming calls from overseas, have bikes with gears that work and make the food come a bit faster in the restaurants.
Thank you for arranging for us to go to Menjangan.
Sorry, we cannot say the same about Alila. However, they made an effort to make us comfortable which we appreciated and thanked them for. The whole concept of Alila sends you a very mixed message - on one hand they make it very formal, on the other hand they want you to be casual at the same time - it does not work. Personnel are not well informed of what’s happening around them hence they send very mixed messages to the clients.
Komodo Dragons island trip was amazing - the boat trip over night, the crew, the guide! Thank you.

Activities
Each of the following activities can be pre-booked through your sales consultant as part of your holiday, with tours available on a daily basis (subject to weather conditions):
- Bird Watching: With more than 120 species of bird thriving in the national park - many on the endangered species list - a guided tour is indeed for a rewarding experience. Look out for the Bali Starling and visit the resorts breeding programme to learn how efforts are made to protect these rare and endemic birds.
- Trekking and Biking: Explore the jungle on foot or better still, jump on a bike with a trained guide to share their secrets about the forest; find out which leaf to use for antiseptic and which one to grab for the perfect manicure. Discover some of the best views, only reachable on foot or discover the Menjangan, a unique species of deer for whom the resort is named.
- Horse Riding: The resort holds its own stable of Australian horses, great for exploring the forest with one of the resort’s trained staff who tailor each trek to suite your riding ability. We recommend early morning or late afternoon for horse trekking, to avoid the heat of the mid-day sun.
- Kayaking: Kayak through the mangrove maze either alone or with a guide to explore the best of the Bayun Bay. Both single or double kayaks are available, together with life-jackets.
- Snorkelling or Diving: Seven well known dive sites lie off the coast of Menjangan Island, a short boat ride from the resort itself. This small, uninhabited island off the north west coast is one of the most spectacular coral reefs in Bali. At the local dive sites are magnificent coral gardens and dramatic reef walls which are home to a vast range of marine life: everything from sea fans, pygmy seahorses and vivid gorgonians to schools of snapper and reef sharks. Visibility is normally excellent, ranging from between 15 and 50 metres. The Menjangan’s water sports / dive base offers a comprehensive selection of wetsuits, masks, diving equipment and all other gear necessary to explore beneath the waves.
- The Liana: The resort own's its very own 25 metre yacht, called The Liana, available for private charter

Komodo Dragons island trip was amazing - the boat trip over night, the crew, the guide! Thank you.
Dining while in Bali will truly be one of the highlights of your entire trip as the experience is enjoyable both at high-end restaurants and at open top cafes. Hotels offer guest a wide variety of excellent dishes to satisfy every budget and taste. If you feel in the mood to venture out for a meal, there are many restaurants within Kuta, Legian, Candidasa, and Sanur.
The atmosphere of most restaurants tend to be relaxed, often with grass roofs, cane furniture, and contemporary music. In addition, mobile snack bars called warungs are popular for a quick bite to eat on the go in between meals.
The night markets are traditional outdoor eateries that come to life at dusk, and are famous all over Southeast Asia. Even if you cannot work up the courage to eat in the markets, you must visit one to experience the thrills, the smells, the sights, and the noises that define this part of the world.
Night markets and traditional outdoor eateries come to life at dusk with this custom being famous all over Southeast Asia. In the event that you decide not to eat in the markets, they are still worth a visit or walkthrough.
If in search of authentic Balinese food, venture outside of your hotel and the city centre restaurants as it is rarely served there.
It is best to check with the UKBA prior to travel to verify your visa requirement needs.
The electricity in Bali is 220 volts with 50 cycles per minute. You should check with your hotel to verify the type of converter or adapter you may need.
Monkey’s are very much a part of the Balinese wildlife and make up of the peoples culture too. Indeed within Balinese Hinduism, the Macaque, is the embodiment of both positive and negative forces. Ubud itself is home to a large population of monkeys as it is one of Bali’s conservational forested areas. They are present in the majority of hotels in this region but generally keep well clear of human beings. Westen & Oriental Travel do not recommend feeding the monkey’s or leaving food outside for them as this may encourage more aggressive behaviour to develop among a troop of monkeys!
Indonesia is considered to be fairly safe and has a low violent crime rate. As advised when travelling to any destination, make sure that you are always aware of your surroundings, especially when out on the town at night.
The flight time from the UK to Indonesia is 15 hours.
Bali is part of Indonesia and use the official currency called the Rupiah, also noted as Rp. Banknotes are available in a range of denominations, however coins are only available in two types. The positive part about Rupiah is that all notes are distinctive and easy to tell apart from each other.
The time difference in Indonesia is GMT +8
