The Gray

    Italy, Milan

The Gray Hotel, Milan is far from gray, with a striking facade and a play on colours in the hotel's public areas this design hotel is a masterpiece of contemporary metropolitan style. The Gray Hotel looks on to the Vittorio Emanuelle Gallery, and is located close to Milan's most famous shopping streets and it's Cathedral.

The elaborate facade is decoated with Art Deco friezes and columns, the modern interiors create a real WOW factor, cool white shades, original pieces of art, splashes of bright colour such as a purple pouf suspended from the ceiling and wooden floors create a sophisticated urban chic ambience.

Gray Hotel's 21 rooms and suites are all individually styled and decorated, each featuring a suspended bed, large circular Jacuzzis with built in TV's, some feature a private gym and Turkish Baths. Each room is unique and include  two duplex suites with polished metallic staircases leading from the lounge to the bedroom and Travertine bathrooms, plush leather headboards, wooden paneled walls, ebony furniture, silks, wooden floors, glass and vibrant African prints are among some of the unique design features at The Gray Hotel.

Similar features are to be found throughout the hotel, from the bar with its illuminated tables, to the restaurant where the cutlery creates artistic lamps. The Le Noir restaurant features black furnishings that highlight colourful lighted niches and the exotic flowers. The cuisine is a series of variations on flavoursome Mediterranean traditions.

The funky décor in the GBar includes illuminated tables and is the perfect stop for a pre-dinner cocktail. During the summer months the Aria lounge spills onto the terrace with its views of the Cathedral, becoming an elegant alfresco lounge right in the heart of Milan.

Annual closure: The Gray is closed between 4 - 26 August 2012.

Italy Guide
About Italy

Celebrating its 150th Birthday of a national unity in 2011, Italy is considered one of the world’s most magnificent places to visit. Perhaps no other country offers such diversity in landscapes, culture, food, history and relics of its ancient past. Its many faces are part of Italy’s appeal. From the fashion capital Milan to the rolling hills of Renaissance Tuscany and the peaks of the Alps, there’s something for everyone in Italy and you’ll find yourself drawn back repeatedly.

Eating out can be expensive. In larger cities you tend to pay a lot more than smaller towns. On average you should reckon on at least €20 to €50 for a meal (two courses, dessert and house wine), although you can still find basic set lunch menus for €10 to €15.

Puglia

Located in the south of the sunny southern Italy, Puglia is a place of beautiful landscapes, blue sea, golden sands and hillsides lined with silvery olive groves.

Alberobello is a town in the region of Puglia famous for its unique and fairytale like trulli houses - limestone dwellings with pointed roofs. Take a stroll around these little houses and wait around for the beautiful sunsets that can be seen from here - we promise it's worth the wait!

Sardinia

Sardinia - the heavenly island of idyllic white sandy beaches, warm turquoise waters and the perfect location for a relaxing beach holiday.

Before You Go

The best time to visit Italy is between April - June when the weather is warm but not stifling hot! Be aware of religious festivals and carnivals during this time especially around Easter.

Most Italians take their holidays during July & August when the weather is at its hottest in most places in Italy. This is when prices soar and when places will be at their busiest.

In the winter first snow normally falls around November however a freak snow fall in June is not uncommon.

Italian is the official language.

Euro (EUR; symbol €) Notes are in denominations of €500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of €2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents.

When You Get There

Most destinations in Italy can be easily reached by train, bus or ferry services and are relatively cheap. For longer distances an internal flight maybe more cost effective.

Car hire will give you the most freedom, but be aware of petrol costs on motorways and finding parking in busy cities.

Chia Laguna Resort, in Sardinia, features a stunning beach with fine sand and turquoise sea you'll feel as if you're in the Caribbean. The Resort has a train the takes you down to the beach, which is sure to be a highlight for the kids, and is only a 5 minute ride.

The Egnathia Spa at Borgo Egnazia is just out of this world.  It looks like a traditionally build Roman bath, and includes two Roman bath scrub rooms, many treatment rooms, beauty salon and more. There is no better place to loose yourself in absolute relaxation.
