| Kids Fact |
The Datai is a highly acclaimed and award winning resort, with a superb location on the scenic north coast of Langkawi, just off the west coast of the Malaysian peninsula.
Located just a one hour flight from Kuala Lumpur and combined with a 40 minute scenic drive from the airport across the island. It enjoys a breathtaking setting, with dense tropical forest on three sides leading down to a mile of soft sand beachfront and highly recommended for those who are comfortable with nature.
The 112 deluxe rooms, villas and suites are all equally well designed, with king size beds, spacious bathrooms, satellite TV and DVD player. The Deluxe Rooms are located in the main building with views of the forest below and the islands of southern Thailand in the distance. In the same location you have a selection of one bedroom suites. All of the Villas have been recently enhanced with spacious bathrooms and all have a jungle location with links to the main facilities by a series of pathways. There is also the option of a few private pool villas with their own jacuzzi.
There is a choice of speciality restaurants with differing locations, offering superb rainforest views or a beach location. The spa is highly recommended, with treatments taking place in the jungle next to a meandering river. In addition there is the island’s only championship golf course, where reduced green fees can usually be arranged for Datai guests. A selection of eco-adventure tours can be arranged, with the night escorted jungle walks particularly suggested. There are over 100 steps linking the main facilities to the beach and jungle, so this resort is not necessarily suitable for those with difficulty walking; however there is a buggy service that is available on request.
Please note:- The hotel is expanding its room portfolio to include an additional 14 villas. Works on the new villas commenced on 1Jul 2011 and are expected to be completed by Nov 2012. The Datai Villa project is located away from the existing main building, villas and suites, with minimal disturbance expected during the expansion process. The hotel management have taken steps to ensure that the project will not intrude on guests' privacy during this time. For further information, please speak to one of our consultants. (updated 5 Jul 2011).
Please Note:- We have been advised that The Golf Club Datai Bay has been closed for upgrade works from 01 October 2011. The new course is to be designed by Ernie Els and is expected to be completed by early summer 2013. Golfers are welcomed at the Gunung Raya Golf Resort during this period. (updated 7 Oct. 2011)

Hotel Map
From rainforests to mountains and everything in between, Malaysia and its essence lives up to what most of us perceive as ‘True Asia’. Considered to be one of the great cultural melting pots, the nation is host to many cultures outside of its own.
This can best be seen while wandering through the streets where you will pass gold-domed Malay mosques that tower over hindu style bustling markets. Far away from the city centres are untamed pieces of natures that offer rare and exotic species and hints of tropical wildlife.
Although lacking in ancient ruins and deep cultural ties such as neighbouring countries, Malaysia still brings a unique cultural heritage all its own that the people of the country can rejoice and celebrate about.
Becoming more of a strong economic force in the last decade, Malaysia often serves as an important trading port between India and China and this is reflected in various sectors within the country, especially in retail.
Malaysian food is heavily inspired by the Indian palate but also influenced by traditional spices and herbs from neighbouring Thailand. Many dishes are made with or blended in coconut milk and curry and other exotic flavours such as galangal, lime, and lemon grass.
Rice is a staple in traditional Malay meals, often accompanied by fried chicken or fish, vegetable dishes, and small condiments such as shrimp paste. As seafood is popular, fish, prawns, and squid are often bestsellers at most restaurant menus.
The most popular Malay dish is Satay, delicious barbecued skewers of marinated chicken, beef, or mutton that are to be dipped in chilli peanut sauce.
You will also find popular dishes from other Asian countries, particularly Chinese Food and Peranakan cuisine.
You will easily find a variety of beverages no matter where you go including traditional western soft drinks and bottled water, both still and sparkling.
