Sugar Beach
Completely refurbished in 2010, Sugar Beach is on the west coast of Mauritius, an hour from the airport and close to the resort of Flic en Flac with its selection of small shops, bars and restaurants. Set amongst 12 hectares of tropical gardens, on over half a kilometre of beach, the resort is centred around the grand Manor House which is reminiscent of a colonial plantation house.
The 258 rooms at Sugar Beach are furnished to complement the overall plantation theme of the property and are located in the main house or in 16 villas which are dotted throughout the gardens. Standard Rooms are on the first floor; Superior Rooms are on the ground floor with terrace and seating for watching the sunset. Family Units are comprised of two interconnecting Standard (1st floor) or Superior (ground floor) rooms and can accommodate two adults and up to four children.
All Inclusive meal plan at Sugar Beach is a popular option and good value for money. All-Inclusive guests also get preferential golf rates at Le Touessrok's course on Ile aux Cerfs and discount at the spa, and the resort offers several restaurants and bars from which to choose. There are two swimming pools - one with a children's area and a quieter adult pool to one end of the resort in the gardens facing the beach, a wide array of land and water sports including mountain biking and horse riding, a spa, attractive 'gingerbread house' style kid's club and teen's club to keep everyone busy, if they so choose!
The Palace - The Old Town
Located in the Downtown Burj Dubai city area, next to sister property The Address Downtown Burj Dubai, this hotel offers a total contrast with a low rise palatial, Arabian style hotel.
Each of the spacious 242 rooms and suites at The Palace - The Old Town is furnished along a Middle Eastern theme, with a balcony or terrace offering views over the Old Town or the lake with its spectacular fountains. Club Room, Palace Suite and Royal Suite guests benefit from a 24 hour check-in system.
The outdoor pool and garden area has a resort feel, with views across the lake to the towering Burj Khalifa and plenty of Arabian gazebos in the shade for relaxing. The Palace - The Old Town also offers a choice of restaurants, fitness centre and a gorgeous spa which alongside the treatment suites features Oriental bath houses with Hammam tables and Hydrospa bathtubs.
Dubai Mall is a five minute stroll away and boasts an aquarium and even an Olympic size ice skating arena, as well as plenty of shops. For a more traditional experience enjoy the shops, cafes and restaurants at the Souk Al Bahar next door. A variety of excursions can be arranged in conjunction with Arabian Ranches Polo Club including: Desert Hacking (horse riding trails in the desert), stable tours and high tea with polo.
Note: Some construction is ongoing in the general Old Town/Burj Khalifa area in line with the development of this area as a key destination within Dubai.

I love the giltz and the glamour of it. The beautiful hotel, great food, funky cocktail bars. The shopping malls are great and you can pick up some real bargains.Read moreFor families there are lots of activities, Kidzania is a must for children. The underwater zoo is good fun and the Snow dome will keep them entertained for hours.
There is a lot more to do in Dubai than people realize, culture shows, desert safaris, water parks and Burj Kalifa. The climate is great for some winter sun.
