Few hotels can boast as rich and intriguing a history as Montpelier Plantation Beach, a Relais & Chateaux Hotel. This atmospheric 18th century plantation house was the chosen venue for the marriage of Admiral Lord Nelson.
Montpelier Plantation and Beach is an intimate, 18 room secluded hideaway set 750 feet above the sea on the slopes of beautiful Mount Nevis – with its own beach club too with sun lounges, beach pavilion and bar (15 minutes drive away). Each room has its own private veranda offering breathtaking views out to the sea.
Premier rooms are housed in semi-detached cottages dotted along the edge of the hillside, with views across the valley and down to the ocean. The newly refurbished Plantation rooms offer more luxury, wooden floors and a new modern chic décor. The Garden Suite includes a private entrance from the garden terrace, an expansive living area and bedroom and chic, contemporary style. The new Villa Suite is a stylish two-bedroom cottage decorated in a chic, plantation style with views over the lawn and out to sea on one side, and Nevis Peak with Nelson’s lookout on the other side.
Restored and transformed Montpelier has stayed true to its heritage. Furnishings, including some of the current owner’s period furniture, grace the Great Room, while the beautiful gardens around the property have been trimmed to open up views of the sea.
Fine dining and a good wine cellar continue to be an important part of life at Montpelier with the Executive Chef overseeing a gourmet menu of international and local recipes made from the best available ingredients. Leisurely days are spent lazing by the large freshwater pool or at the property’s private beach. Tennis is on offer for the more active.
As dusk falls, guests gather for cocktails in the Great Room, enjoying the serenity of early evening in this exquisite corner of the Caribbean, before dining on the terrace or in the 17th century Mill Restaurant. It is this informal, friendly atmosphere that is quintessentially Plantation House.
Children aged 8yrs and over are welcome year round. The Little Guests Programme includes nature hikes, cooking classes, pottery making, star gazing and story telling, popcorn and movies nights.
Annual closure between mid August - early October 2013.
