Moore Ranch is a simple family working ranch situated in southwest Kansas, just 45 miles from the historic Dodge City. The ranch work is done the old-fashioned cowboy way, raising Texas Longhorn cattle year round. Located on 1, 400 acres, the ranch is also surrounded by 4, 500 acres of rolling hills and prairies. Moore Ranch is a wonderful choice for all levels of riders as well as singles, couples and groups, it can be combined well with a fly drive holiday around Kansas and Oklahoma.
A regular day at the ranch will see you awake at sunrise to the sound of the roosters crowing, followed by a hearty breakfast, saddling up the horses, riding ranch horses through the Longhorn herd, herding the cattle to new pastures and riding over the prairie. Meals at the ranch are home cooked and served family style at the table or outdoors on a picnic table. Please note alcohol can be consumed at the ranch and can be purchased from the local store.
When is the ranch open and what day does riding begin?
Moore Ranch is open from April until October with stays lasting 6 days and 7 nights. The ranch prefers a Friday to Friday stay or Saturday to Saturday stay. Daily ranch experiences are available on request.
What are the types of rides on offer and how often will I ride?
Riding takes place nearly every day and the ranch welcomes all levels of riders. Ride on open prairie, most definitely not nose to tail, and beside the family.
About the horses
The ranch is home to around 50 horses and 300 Texas Longhorn cattle.
What else can I do at the ranch?
During branding, you are welcome to help brand and vaccinate. Daily activities on the ranch include mending fences, moving cattle and monitoring the range. Longhorn cattle drives are popular at Moore Ranch - please see below for further details.
Is the ranch suited to children?
There is no specific children's programme however children are welcome (aged 8 years and up). Please note there is no children's discount.
What other attractions are there in the area?
Combine a stay at Moore Ranch with a fly drive around Kansas. Nearby Dodge City has western roots and you can visit the reconstruction of the downtown and The Boot Hill Museum.
Longhorn Cattle Drives are two day events involving moving the longhorns in July and September. In April and October, these are these three day events travelling around 35 miles. On both drives, there is a chuck wagon and teepee accommodation, or you can even sleep under the stars! Cattle drives are limited to 10 guests whilst ranch stays, 1-5 people.
Moore Ranch Room Details
The Cabins at the ranch are cozy, comfortable and centrally located. They all have heating and air conditioning systems. In the cabins, you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the ranch. All cabins are ensuites. There is no television, internet or telephone signal in the cabins.
