How to Plan your Perfect Honeymoon

Use our top 10 guide of how to plan the perfect blissful honeymoon, before calling our travel specialists to perfecftly tailor-make your honeymoon for you.

1 Check the Weather

Our suggestions on when and where to honeymoon depending on the weather is the perfect guide to avoiding hurricane season in the Caribbean and the heat of summer in the Middle East. Have a look at our weather guide prepared especially for honeymooners like you to research before booking your dream getaway.

2 Discuss the Destination

Discuss what your honeymoon dreams are with your partner, to make sure that you both get the most out of your post-wedding bliss. Will you want an adventure packed experience or a week relaxing on the beach recovering from your big day? Use our honeymoon inspiration to help. You may have different opinions on which you would prefer, in which case why not look into a multi-centre honeymoon.

3 To Mini-Moon or Maxi-Moon

Take into account the length of your honeymoon. If you only have a few days, it may be more suitable to book a stay in some of Europe’s beautiful and exclusive resorts. For honeymoons we recommend the Grace Santorini, voted one of the best hotels in the world, or a weekend break in New York or Miami. If you are looking for a longer break, our honeymoon specialists can help you plan the perfect trip.

4 Set a Budget

Agree on the price of your honeymoon before you set your heart on something that you may find is out of your budget - but if you do, we'll be able to find similar alternatives and there's always our gift list service, Honeymiles, which allows your friends and family to contribute to your honeymoon.

5 Set up Honeymiles

Our exclusive wedding gift service offers you an alternative to the traditional wedding gift. Your wedding guests can help contribute to your honeymoon by purchasing credits towards the cost of the trip or individual ‘treats’ or activities that you decide to do with your loved one. You can set up your own personal webpage for your friends and family to donate to. Click here for more information.

6 Travel Insurance

Make sure that your travel insurance is valid and that the more expensive and new items are covered. Remember you will probably have brand new wedding and engagement rings in your possession on your honeymoon.

7 Book a night in a hotel in the UK

At Western & Oriental, we can ensure that your honeymoon runs smoothly from beginning to end. Depending on your destination, it may not be possible to arrange flights for the day after your wedding. The more remote the destination, the less frequent flights are. Instead, our travel specialists can ensure that you make the most of every moment of your honeymoon. We can arrange for a night in a luxury hotel, close to the airport to avoid those early starts.

8 Check your Passport

Double check that your passport is still valid for the time period that you wish to travel. Some countries do not allow entry if you have a passport that is about to expire. Similarly, make sure that all of your bookings and documents are in the same name to prevent confusion and miscommunication at border control.

9 Visit your Doctor

Your chosen honeymoon destination might be in a destination that requires jabs or inoculations. We recommend that you check with your local GP before embarking on any major trips. If you do need any vaccinations, you will need to visit your doctor or local travel clinic at least four to six weeks before you travel to ensure that you are fully protected.

10 Pack in Advance

Nothing is worse than last minute packing especially in the hours before or after your wedding. Close to the time you will have plenty to do and many people around you making sure that your big day runs smoothly. Start putting clothes aside and into a suitcase a week or so beforehand so that you know you have everything you need, so when the time comes, it will be pure enjoyment.
