2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the rediscovery of Machu Picchu by the American Explorer, Hiram Bingham. Machu Picchu is one of South America’s major tourist attractions and the lost city of the Incas was recently voted one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. The highlight of this special centenary tour is a two-night stay close to the ruins, in the town of Aguas Calientes, as most tours include only a one-night stay or a day-trip.

The itinerary starts with two nights in Peru’s capital of Lima, before transferring to the Inca heartland. Travellers then spend two nights in the beautiful Urubamba Valley, regarded as a sacred valley by the Incas, before taking the train for the journey to Machu Picchu. A tour of the ruins is included and there is also ample time in the area for repeat visits, thanks to the two nights of accommodation. Before flying home, W&O Travel’s customers also spend two nights in the historic Inca capital of Cuzco. All international and domestic flights are included, as well as transfers and transportation throughout.
