  There are three main beaches in Rio, the famous Copacabana, Ipanema and the exclusive Leblon beaches to catch some rays and watch the beautiful Cariocas (residents of Rio de Janeiro) stroll by.

  After a long hard day chilling at the beach, head down to the Casa Rosa in the picturesque Santa Teresa district for some live samba music, delicious feijoda and some of the best views of the city! A trip to Rio de Janeiro, of course, would not be complete, without at visit to the iconic statues of Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf mountain.

  Just be sure to reach there super early, latecomers can expect to wait longer than three hours during the high peak season!

  Buenos Aires without a doubt is a beautiful city.

  Famous for its tango, gourmet cuisine and fantastic nightlife, it doesn’t fail to live up to its reputation. Avenida Santa Fe is BA’s answer to Oxford street, lined with many gorgeous boutiques, hotels, restaurants and bars – it easily rivals any European city.

  Districts to look out for are the Palermos – Palermo Hollywood, Palermo Soho and Palermo Viejo – a stunning middle class area, full of cafes and stunning residential homes. What not to miss is a trip to the Recoleta neighbourhood, where the formerly rich and famous had chosen to rest and San Telmo, the home of tango and also host to one of Latin America’s biggest antiques fair every Sunday.

  On the dining out front, there are many cheap options, parillas (steak restaurants) are available all over BA, for all budgets serving excellent beef and pork, accompanied by some excellent home grown Malbec. A foodie’s paradise!

  Described as the ‘land of lakes and volcanoes’ there are plenty to visit, one in particular is the remarkable red and black Volcán Momotombo.

  Salar de Uyuni are remarkable, the lakes are absolutely stunning.

    I strongly recommend bringing along some sunglasses, snacks, and some warm clothes as night time can be a tad chilly.

  Santiago isn’t what I expected, the city is very retro and cosmopolitan, full of al fresco cafes, well preserved colonial buildings, a vibrant nightlife but most of all very artistic.

  
  
  Almost everywhere you go, you can see that each murals has a somewhat creative and sometimes comical edge.  Mercado Centrale, Santiago´s biggest seafood market, is a good stop for some fresh yummy seafood.
  
  Walk along the shops to Plaza des Armas, and watch many of the open public debates. As soon as the sunset hits, head down to La Piñotera Bar for some great local drinks and for a more authentic Chilean environment.

  You’ll find traces of the Mayan populations all over the markets, mountains and lots of sites around the country.

  Head down to Lago de Izabal or Nebaj to escape the tourist trail and then back on it to see the unmissable Lago de Atitlan. 
  
  Given its wealth in ancient history, there is too much to uncover in one trip, so I’ve promised myself to make another few :D!

  Colonia del Sacremento has one of the prettiest harbours in Latin America, showing signs of its former colonisers, the Portuguese around its neighbourhoods.

  Montevideo is also great for a couple of days, sample some great restaurants serving up the famous South American beef and has plenty of hot spots to dance the night away.

  Take a trip to the Lago de Yojoa for some spectacular bird watching and striking waterfalls.

  The country has some very beautiful national parks to capture wildlife at its best.

  Ignore all the negative stuff that you hear about Venezuela in the news, it offers so much more.

  For one, the incredible longest waterfall in the world, Salto Angel is located there. Two, there is a much more exciting line up of wildlife from the Venezuelan side of the Amazon rainforest than the Brazilians can claim and three, you can watch some of the world’s hottest baseball players at any one of the many baseball stadiums dotted around the country.

  Arequipa is one delightful city.

  Started off Plaza des Armas (the main square in the city) and found many well manicured palm trees and other varieties planted in front of a cathedral. The architecture around the city is stunning not to mention the 400 hundred yr monastery and the city’s crown jewel, The Monastery of Catalina, was amazing.

  The monastery was also a citadel, still in excellent condition. Little streets, kitchens, pretty little squares and many rooms where the nuns lived in. Soon as the sun set, slowly made my way back to the hostel getting a glimpse of three native women in traditional dress (cholitas) and gorgeous little bowler hats with their adorable children !
