About Tom Cloherty
I joined Western & Oriental in September 2009, and have now worked in the travel industry for 11 years. During that time, I’ve enjoyed a variety of different roles, from working as a travel agent on the high street, to ground crew at Gatwick Airport. My time spent as cabin crew for British Airways gave me an excellent opportunity to globetrot to some of the most fantastic places on earth.
Finally I have found the perfect position, as I am able to combine my personal passion for travelling with some of the world’s most luxurious resort – a perfect match!
Luxury holidays mean different things to different people, for some it’s the quality of accommodation, food or service, for others, particularly our VIP clients, it may simply be privacy on an isolated beach and some real downtime to totally unwind.
I have travelled extensively throughout my career, and I never tire of it – how can you, it’s such an educational and enjoyable experience. My friends are of course very envious of my position at Western & Oriental , how many people can say they have sipped champagne on the runway of a private island in the Seychelles after all!?
Since joining the company almost two years ago, I have already travelled to Antigua, Anguilla, St Bart’s, Nevis, St Kitts, Barbados, Malaysia and Borneo, Seychelles and Turks and Caicos – you wont speak to anyone in the travel Industry who can say the same. We are even the envy of our counterparts as we get to travel so much!
I adore unashamed luxury when I travel. For me the idyllic beaches of the Seychelles and Turks and Caicos are amongst the best in the world and as a beach lover, just perfect.
Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos is simply fabulous, if you ever tire of looking at the pristine, white sandy beaches, pull yourself away from your b
eachfront villa with pool and experience the world class COMO Shambhala spa, and you will be in good hands of award-winning masseurs and it’s not uncommon to see a Hollywood face or two over dinner. You should also take a boat excursion to the North Caicos and have a
gourmet lobster lunch with champagne on your own private island, it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
St Lucia is another of my favourites, there is so much to see and do including zip-lining, a Volcano tour (you can actually drive through!) and not to forget the famous Jump Up – a great street party held every Friday in Gros Islet where you can really party like a local, enjoy great street foods such as fish fry and enjoy a very tasty Piton beer, named after the famous Piton’s in the south. St Lucia is much loved by our honeymoon customers, and it’s great for families too.
I love the Caribbean perhaps more than anywhere, as all of the islands are so different. Barbados has all the glitz and glamour you would e
xpect, with world-class restaurants and Sandy Lane, perhaps the finest hotel in the Caribbean.
St Bart’s has throwback of the Cote D’Azure, stunning beaches, a very chic French atmosphere and great for celebrity spotting! I love the island of Nevis – truly an undiscovered beauty, full of Caribbean charm and an excellent opportunity to learn about Caribbean.
Life without compromising on quality – Nisbet Plantation resort just keeps on winning award after award!
The Far East is a fabulous destination to holiday. There is something for everyone, beaches, culture, nightlife, escapism, you name it, the Far East has it! From world class beach in the Andaman Island and Koh Samui, to the smaller undiscovered islands of Pangkor Laut and Tioman in Malaysia, there is something for everyone.
The cultural experience available in Thailand is fantastic, the temples and sight and sounds really call out to you, and finishing off with a week on a nice beach on one of the islands is a great combination.
My absolute must see destination is Antarctica. I really want to visit its remote, remarkable beauty – and hopefully catch a glimpse of some magnificent wildlife.
