Dominated by green jungles, palm-fringed beaches, rolling hills, tea plantations, paddy fields and stunning beaches, Kerala is one of India’s most beautiful and tranquil states. Experience colourful Kathakali dances, head to the tea growing area and hill station of Munnar, enjoy the thrill of spotting rare wildlife at the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and explore the beautiful backwaters on a rice barge.

Enhance your Indian experience with a traditional Ayurvedic treatment at either the Coconut Lagoon or Marari Beach Resort. See the Chinese fishing nets, tour the Dutch Palace, visit the Synagogue and take an evening stroll through fascinating Fort Cochin. Another truly memorable highlight is an overnight cruise on a private rice barge. Meander through backwaters, a comprehensive network of lakes, lagoons and canals, surrounded by tropical vegetation. 

 

Itinerary

Day 1

London to Cochin

Depart London Heathrow on you overnight Emirates Airlines flight to Cochin via Dubai.
Day 2

Arrive Cochin

Arrive in Cochin and transfer to your hotel for two nights. Evening enjoy walk around Fort Cochin area.
Day 3

Cochin

Often known as the ‘Venice of the East’, the city of Cochin has wonderfully diverse influences. Today you will view the Chinese fishing nets, tour the Dutch Palace and Synagogue in the old Jewish town and visit St. Francis Church, built by the Portuguese in 1510 AD. In the evening enjoy a Kathakali dance performance. Overnight [B]
Day 4

Drive to Munnar

Today your driver will take you into the heart of the Cardamom Hills to the tea growing area and Hill Station of Munnar (4 hours). Set at an altitude of 6000 ft, Munnar is breathtakingly beautiful haven of peace and tranquility. Spend the afternoon relaxing at Windermere Estate where you will spend two nights. [B]
Day 5

Munnar

Visit the tea factory and enjoy the nature walk and explore the unending expanse of tea plantations and pristine valleys. [B)
Day 6

Drive to Periyar

This morning drive to Thekkady (4 hours). Enjoy the enchanting journey as the road winds through tranquil countryside, rich plantations & thick jungles. In the afternoon enjoy game viewing by boat in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978 . The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park. You will spend the night at the Spice Village [B)
Day 7

Drive to Kumarakom

Travel on to Kumarakom (4 hours) and the lush backwaters of Kerala. Kumarakom is Kerala’s heartland of lagoons with palm fringed lakes and paddy fields, inter-linked with hundreds of winding canals. Arrive at your hotel where you will spend two nights. Afternoon is then at leisure. [B]
Day 8

Kumarakom

Day at leisure to relax at the hotel or explore the village of Kumarakom and Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary on your own. [B]
Day 9

Backwater Cruise

Today you join your Kettuvallams, a private traditional air-conditioned and fully staffed rice barge (houseboat). Spend the day cruising the backwaters, an unbelievably beautiful paradise of mangrove forests, emerald green paddy fields and coconut groves interspersed with enchanting waterways and canals. Watching village life unfold as you float by and spend an unforgettable night on these tranquil waterways. Overnight on Houseboat. [B,L,D]
Day 10

Marari Beach

After breakfast cruise back to Alleppey, disembark your rice barge and travel north along the coast to Marari (30 mins), a delightful fishing village where you can enjoy 3 nights stretched out on the beautiful beach. [B]

Fly to London

Transfer to Cochin airport for your overnight Emirates Airlines flight to London via Dubai (B).
