Ha Giang Tour

For those wishing to come back with a unique journey of discovery, this off-the-beaten-track extension package of Ha Giang and Dong Van includes visits to some of the northern most territories boardering Yunnan Province and China.  Here guests will have the chance to experience first hand the life and living of some of Vietnams minority groups.  In addition, our tour includes an overnight stay in Hanoi at the start of the itinerary to relax following your long haul flight, as well as a couple of nights at the end for an opportunity to explore the old city itself.

Day 1
THURSDAY: Arrive to Hanoi
Arrive and transfer to the Melia Hanoi hotel for an overnight stay. [B]
Day 2
FRIDAY: Hanoi to Ha Giang (320km)
After a long journey from Hanoi, you will arrive in Ha Giang. Relatively undiscovered, this off-the-beaten-track destination is unique for its well-preserved traditions and local culture. Lunch will be provided en route to Ha Giang (approximately 7hrs including stop for lunch).

Upon your arrival, visit the Tay villagers at Phuong Do, which is dotted with stilt houses and surrounded by terraced rice paddy fields. You will have an opportunity to walk around the village and get a taste of very authentic rural daily life. Then take a bike ride during the peaceful twilight.

You will return to Ha Giang in the late afternoon and check in to a local guesthouse. Overnight in Ha Giang. (L/D)
Day 3
SATURDAY: Ha Giang to Dong Van (160km)
Drive along the mountainous terrain (between 700m and 1,300m high) whilst experiencing some extraordinary landscapes and terraced paddy fields. You will stop at the Quyet Tien Market where groups of the Nung, the White Hmong, the Po Y, the Dao Lanten and the Tay villagers gather to trade their local produce.

Proceed to the Heaven Gate and the Fairy Mountain before visiting a White Hmong village which specializes in flax weaving. This is a wonderful opportunity to stretch your legs and explore the village. There will be another visit to the village of Zao Ao Dai (where people still wear the traditional 'Zao Long' dress) before taking a lunch break.

After lunch, continue driving up to the altitude of 1,432m to visit an ancient village of the White Hmong and then on to Sung La to discover the LoLo houses and its people, the LoLo community (one of Vietnam's least-common communities only found within this region). Afterwards, visit the impressive ancient Hmong King Palace before reaching Dong Van Town.

In the late afternoon you will check in to your guesthouse accommodation and overnight in Dong Van. (B/L/D)
Day 4
SUNDAY: Dong Van - Meo Vac - Ha Giang Homestay (170km)
After breakfast, visit the Sunday Dong Van market (one of the most beautiful markets in northern Vietnam). Before reaching the peak of Ma Pi Leng mountain, you will be able to admire the panoramic views of a rocky mountains, the basins of the Nho Que river and paddy rice field terraces. Visit Meo Vac market where cattle are traded and then proceed to the village of Zao Ao Dai before lunchtime. After lunch, return to Ha Giang.

Upon arrival to Ha Giang, you will be welcomed by your host Tay family where you will have your overnight homestay experience in their traditional stilted house. Our homestay experience offers basic comfort to guests and will surely be an unforgettable experience. Your stay will also include a memorable dinner with your local Tay family. (B/L/D)

*OPTIONAL: Indulge in a traditional herbal bath or simply have a relaxing foot soak using herbal remedies.
Day 5
MONDAY: Ha Giang to Hanoi (320km)
After breakfast, take a walk or bike ride around the village to observe the local life and immerse yourself in the tranquil mountainous scenery.

Your return journey to Hanoi will be scheduled for sometime after your morning walk or bike ride and will also include lunch en route. Upon arrival to Hanoi, you will be transferted to your hotel. (B/L)

*OPTIONAL: As part of our responsible efforts to support the local community, guests will have the opportunity to green their stay and make a difference to local peoples lives by planting trees in the local orchard garden. This is an interesting joint effort for both parties wherein guests plant trees during their visits and the host families cultivate the trees until they bear fruit in order to support their day-to-day living.
